The Groesbeek Heights mission uses the Groesbeek Reserves and Prepared Positions (page 264) special rules.
Your Orders
Allied
The Heights lies on the borders of the German Reich, and overlooks Nijmegen. To take the bridges at Nijmegen and hold the roads open for Arnhem, it is vital that you gain those heights.
Axis
The Allies are closing on the Groesbeek Heights overlooking the borders of the Reich. No allied presence can be allowed this close to home – gain those heights at all cost.

Preparing for battle
- Mark out the centre line on the table along the longer edges of the table. The Allied have the western side of the table, and the Axis have the eastern.
- Starting with the Allied players, both sides place an objective on the Allied side of the centre line at least 12”/30cm from the table edges and the centre line, excluding the Groesbeek Heights completely.
- Starting with the Axis players, both sides place an objective on the Axis side of the centre line at least 12”/30cm from the table edges and the centre line, excluding the Groesbeek Heights completely.
- Starting with the Allied players, both sides place an objective anywhere on top of the Groesbeek Heights disregarding the slopes completely.
- The Allied players now have 20 minutes to deploy their entire force including Independent teams, but excluding Reconnaissance Platoons. They may deploy anywhere on their side of the centre line, not including the Groesbeek Heights, at least 12”/30cm from the centre line. The Allied players may chose to keep any platoons they wish in Reserve. Any platoons not completely deployed within 20 minutes must be held in Reserve.
- The Axis players now deploy under the same conditions and restrictions, but must also deploy any Reconnaissance Platoons that are not held in Reserve at this time.
- The attacking side now deploys any Reconnaissance Platoons that are not held in Reserve.
Reconnaissance Platoons may deploy up to the centre line, including the Groesbeek Heights as long as they are at least 16”/40cm from all enemy teams.

Beginning the Battle
- The Allied players have the first turn. As both sides are in Prepared Positions, all platoons may begin the game Dug In.
Ending the Battle
The battle ends as soon as both sides have had the same number of turns and the time limit has been passed.
Deciding Who Won
At the start of a side’s turn when you normally check victory conditions that side gains one Objective Point for each objective that it holds.
An objective yields an Objective Point to the side that has taken it every turn that they hold it. It is a good idea to keep a running total of Objective Points scored as you play the game. At the start of each turn add up the Objective Points you score this turn, and add them to the running total.
Both sides gain two Objective Points rather than one for holding each objective on the Groesbeek Heights.
A side starts the game holding all objectives in their deployment area. They hold any objectives that they have taken (even if all of their troops have since moved away) until the enemy takes it back or contests it by having troops that could take it within 4”/10cm. The side that has the most Objective Points at the end of the game wins.
After determining the winner, check the Victory Point table below for the final score.

Mission Special Rules
The Groesbeek Heights mission uses the Groesbeek Reserves and Prepared Positions (page 264) special rules.
Groesbeek Reserves
The Groesbeek Reserves work just like the normal Reserves (page 268). However, any Reconnaissance, Fallschirmjäger, Parachute, Airlanding, Glider or Commando platoon that arrives from Reserve may enter the table from either their own table edge, or from any of the long table edges where their entry point is at least 8”/20cm from all enemy teams.
Victory Point Table
The winning players has lost one or no platoons - Stunning Victory 6:1
The winning players has lost two or three platoons - Major Victory 5:2
The winning players has lost four or more platoons - Minor Victory 4:3
If a winning player started the game with nine or more platoons in the player's own company (not including transport platoons), the first destroyed platoon from that company is ignored when determining the victory points above.
